On November 12 and 19, 2019 Mississippi Public Broadcasting’s Early Childhood Education division participated in the annual Books, Ball, and Blocks (BBB) Developmental screening hosted by Mississippi Families as Allies and Springboard to Opportunities.
The event took place at Northwood Village and Lincoln Garden Apartments in Jackson, which are participating communities in MPB’s Ready To Learn collaboration. In addition to children receiving dental and other health screenings from various providers, MPB staff was on hand to provide families with educational resources and some fun items, too. Children received books, crayons, jump ropes and easy to make recipes. Parents received information about PBS KIDS programs and general MPB information. Students were enthused about receiving free books.
MPB provided several activities. Students sang and colored at the coloring station. Parents received information about upcoming MPB events, programs and services. Students who generally participate in the afterschool program with MPB brought their friends to the MPB table to pick up information on various activities MPB Education offers for them.
This representation was sponsored by a Ready To Learn grant provided by the Department of Education to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
