MPB’s Early Childhood team hosted its second Teacher Workshop of 2020. The Read Across America training took place on February 29, 2020 at Mississippi Public Broadcasting. Thirty-five daycare teachers and administrators attended the training, which was high-energy and collaborative.
Teachers enjoyed learning with one another as well as completing Dr. Seuss themed activities within groups. Shelia Brown Robinson, MPB’s director of early childhood education, facilitated the workshop. She shared with teachers the appropriate tone to have when reading to students, how to convey the author’s intentions for the story and the importance of planning for activities.
There were three activity stations the teachers rotated. The stations included making a “Thing One and Thing Two” character using construction paper and other tools; creating a collage using paint; and writing a rhyming story. Teachers received three hours for attendance and participation in this workshop.
MPB offers four preschool teacher training workshops throughout the year. Each workshop is scheduled on a Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon and held at MPB. In addition to these scheduled workshops, MPB’s Early Childhood Staff will also (1) travel to offsite locations where there is a minimum of 10 teachers to be trained, and (2) can design a needs-based workshop for a center or group of teachers.
Mississippi Public Broadcasting has been awarded Standing Approval for MSDH Child Care Licensure training. To request a workshop email education@mpbonline.org. Visit the Early Childhood section at education.mpbonline.org for workshop details.
