11AM | Southern Remedy: Thanksgiving Special

On a special Thanksgiving episode of Southern Remedy, Dr. Rick is joined by Dr. Scott Rodgers, chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at UMMC. 

2PM | Life as a Wild Turkey

World-renowned naturalist Joe Hutto, subject of the Emmy winning BBC documentary "My Life As a Turkey", discusses how he became a wild turkey mother in the hammocks of Florida. Plus: Fourth-generation pilot Eric Walden gives a play-by-play of the ninja-like moves of the wild turkey—mid-air.  And: The once-scorned bronze-feathered turkey is making a comeback, with the help of organic, free-range farmers like Paul Kelly. Also: Jay Sullivan sends his students off to Thanksgiving Break with a poem about a young engineer’s ingenuity and of course, a turkey. 

3PM | With Good Reason: Giving Thanks

In this special holiday episode, we're taking a look at the indigenous side of a Thanksgiving table. Minnesota Chef Sean Sherman (the Sioux Chef) gives us a taste of pre-contact American Indian cuisine. We'll also take a look at the complicated history of the most well-known reservation food, fry-bread. And talk with American Indian scholars Anton Treuer and Karenne Wood about their food traditions.

Thursday – November 26

9AM | The Sporkful: Thanksgiving Special

Would you like to spend Thanksgiving with Mo RoccaAmy Sedaris, and Robert Krulwich? Well unfortunately, you can't. But listening to this one-hour radio special, hosted by Dan Pashman of The Sporkful podcast and Cooking Channel’s You’re Eating It Wrong, is the next best thing.

10AM | SEASON PASS: The Egg Bowl Special

This hour, we look at Mississippi’s grudge match: Ole Miss versus Mississippi State. On this special week, we’ll welcome renowned journalist Rick Cleveland and Egg Bowl heroes Wayne Madkin and Cory Peterson.  It's the Egg Bowl Special on MPB's season Pass.

11AM | Turkey Confidential

Turkey Confidential is a live, two-hour, call-in program on Thanksgiving Day from 11 AM - 1 PM. A Thanksgiving morning tradition now in its eleventh year, past shows have included everything from a cross-country trucker cooking his Thanksgiving dinner on the manifold to a panicked first-time cook who didn't realize a turkey needs to be thawed. Lynne handles all questions with wit, expertise and laughter.

1PM | Backstory: Thanksgiving Special

When we sit down to Thanksgiving dinner, we think we know what we're commemorating. After all, the story of Pilgrims and Indians breaking bread together is one of the first history lessons many of us had. But if an actual Pilgrim were to attend your Thanksgiving dinner, chances are he'd be stunned, and not a little disgusted, by what transpired there.

2PM | Snap Judegement: Thanksgiving Special

'Tis the season to consider those things that we are most thankful for. And so this week on Snap Judgment we're taking a look back on some of the stories we've done that touch on this theme of gratitude, because we are so thankful.

3PM | True Stories from the Butterball Turkey Line

This week, we chat with the turkey experts who man Butterball’s Turkey Talk-Line, providing answers to more than 100,000 holiday cooking questions each November and December. We’ll put roasting pans through their paces with gadget guru Lisa McManus, and we’ll taste store-bought shortcuts to find out which ones to avoid and which ones will get Thanksgiving dinner on the table quicker. Wine expert Stephen Meuse investigates whether wine has gender, and then we’ll head into the test kitchen to learn how to make the perfect sweet potato pie. And of course, we’ll be taking your calls to answer all of your cooking questions.

10AM | A Feast for the Ears

As families come together and give thanks, A Feast for the Ears helps set the atmosphere and provide deeper meaning to the Thanksgiving holiday. A two-hour program, A Feast for the Ears reflects on the rich history and traditions of this well-loved American holiday and highlights music by American composers such as Aaron Copeland, Virgil Thomson, William Billings and Charles Ives, along with some undiscovered treasures by Rick Sowash and Mark O?Connor. Host Mark Perzel presents a melodic and intriguing exploration of Thanksgiving history, lore and roots in early European harvest festivals, as well as a thoughtful examination of the holiday's evolution and contemporary traditions.
