Today, MSDH is reporting an additional 1,245 cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi and 51 deaths (19 of which occurred between July 11 and July 29, identified from death certificates). Mississippi's total of COVID-19 cases for the year now stands at 63,444, with 1,804 deaths.
Today's cases included 56 among residents in long-term care facilities, and seven resident deaths. There are now 173 active outbreaks of COVID-19 in long-term care facilities. NOTE: The definition of an outbreak has changed slightly to follow updated national guidelines. An outbreak is now considered one confirmed COVID-19 case among residents, or more than one case in a 14-day period among staff or employees. MSDH will continue to investigate all cases that occur in long-term care facilities.
