Today MSDH is reporting an additional 1,610 cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi and 28 deaths (11 of which occurred between July 5 and July 17), identified from death certificates). Mississippi's total of COVID-19 cases for the year now stands at 49,663, with 1,463 deaths. Correction: A duplicate death report in Marion County has been corrected today, and total deaths in that county have been reduced by one.
Today's cases included 28 among residents in long-term care facilities, and 9 resident deaths. Active outbreaks of COVID-19 in long-term care facilities have risen again, to 183 (where an outbreak is one or more cases among residents or staff).
The burden on hospitals continues to increase. Currently there are 975 Mississippians hospitalized with confirmed COVID-19 infection, and 241 more with suspected COVID-19.
