Today MSDH is reporting an additional 1,700 cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi and 36 deaths. Sixteen deaths occurred between December 8 and December 18. Twenty deaths occurred between November 21 and December 10, identified from death certificate reports. Mississippi's total of COVID-19 cases for the year now stands at 192,111, with 4,390 deaths.
Among cases and deaths already reported, MSDH has identified 68 new cases in residents of long-term care facilities, and 6 deaths. There are currently 235 ongoing outbreaks of COVID-19 in long-term care facilities.
