Mississippi voters no longer have to go to the circuit clerk's office to register to vote--they can now do it online.
State officials are launching a new website called "Y'all Vote." They say the site will make obtaining voting information more convenient for Mississippians. People can register to vote, see ballots, find polling places and manage their information. Governor Phil Bryant says he wants to bolster the rate of Mississippians registered to vote.
"We lead the nation with some of the highest registered to vote population at 80 percent is encouraging to me and I think we can probably add more to them using this technology, this data base system and so that will be an important feature for all our citizens," said Bryant.
The site also has a portal for military personnel. Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann.
"I think the most important thing is people will be able to change their mailing address and go to the right polling place at home at night when they get off work. They don't have to go by the circuit clerk's or order a change and forget to fill it in or forget to mail it back, it costs a stamp," said Hosemann.
The site is at: www.yallvote.sos.ms.gov. The deadline to register to vote is October 8.
