Restaurants are on the brink of collapse according to Governor Tate Reeves. He says allowing take-out and delivery service during the coronavirus pandemic has helped some. But Reeves says others aren’t able to provide those services. Yesterday, he amended his safer-at-home order to allow in-door and out-door dining with strict social distancing guidelines.

There are rules they have to follow, masks for servers, they’re going to have to close tables, no more than 50 percent capacity. I know that this isn’t as far as some of you wanted us to go today, but it’s a start,” said Reeves.

Guidelines for reopening also include sanitizing restaurants, screening employees and no more than six people at a table. Restaurants must consult the state health department to establish policies to prevent spreading Covid 19 . State health officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs made it clear, the virus is still a threat.

“We still have a lot of covid cases. It’s still out there. And if we collectively as a community make decisions that are safe, we’ll not only protect ourselves and our family, but help us get out of this mess much more quickly,” said Dobbs.

The amended order takes effect Thursday. Reeves also announced children can play in parks in groups of 20 or less. Parents must remain in their vehicle to social distance. The governor says his team is working to provide some financial relief to barbers and salons which still remain closed. The safer-at-home order expires next Monday.
