MPB Wins 4 Top Prizes at the Mississippi Association of Broadcasters Awards

Awards include First Place in Achievement for coverage of the 2023 Rolling Fork Tornado

JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippi Public Broadcasting won four top prizes during therecent Mississippi Association of Broadcasters Excellence in Broadcasting Awards.

MPB News won first place in three categories, including Achievement for its extensive coverage of the March 2023 tornado that killed 15 and devastated the Delta communities of Rolling Fork and Silver City.

MPB’s morning news program, “Mississippi Edition,” won two awards in the Public Affairs category: first place for coverage of the 2023 Mississippi Primary Election and second place for coverage of the Rolling Fork tornado.

In the Documentary category, “Mississippi Edition” won first place for its in-depth look at how Mississippi celebrates civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Confederate General Robert E. Lee on the same state holiday.  “Mississippi Edition” is hosted by Desiree Frazier and the producer of the winning shows was Michael Guidry.

The producers of “Now, You’re Talking with Marshall Ramsey!” received the first placeaward for Best Radio Talk show. The program is hosted by Marshall Ramsey and the producers are Germaine Flood and Lacey Alexander.

MPB’s other awards included:

• Second place in the Radio Feature category for Alexander’s story about the International Ballet Competition in Jackson.

• Third place in Radio Feature for reporter Mike McEwen’s story about a trek up the Pearl River as volunteers cleared 12,000 pounds of trash in one day.

• Second place in the Continuing Coverage category for MPB News’ ongoing coverage of the Rolling Fork tornado.
