A signature event of Mississippi Public Broadcasting and MPB Foundation – Mississippi Antique Showcase – will be held Oct. 13-14, at the Gulf Coast Community College Hospitality Resort Management Center in Biloxi.

This is an opportunity for people to visit the Gulf Coast and bring their family heirlooms and antiques to professional appraisers to learn whether they own hidden treasures.

The first antique appraisal event was held in fall 2022 in Jackson and a second event was held in spring 2023 in Columbus. Both drew hundreds of people, who brought items that ranged from Native American tapestry to delicate porcelain and striking artwork.

The events are filmed for the MPB Original “Mississippi Antique Showcase” TV program.

The appraisers will include Dwight Stevens of Stevens Auction Company in Aberdeen; Mark Kennedy of Kennedy’s Auction Service, LLC in Selmer, Tenn.; Luke Edward and Ron Locke of Edward-Locke Estate Sales in Daphne, Ala.; Peter Webster of Vieux Marche Estate Sales in Biloxi; Adam Lambert of Crescent City Auction Gallery in New Orleans; and Cory Ferraez of Ferraez & Associates in Hattiesburg. Additional appraisers also will attend.

On Friday, Oct. 13, appraisers will review items from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Saturday, Oct. 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Residents can bring items for appraisal that include artwork, glass, porcelain, textiles, metals, memorabilia, and printed materials. The $100 cost covers a ticket, complimentary food, beverage, and a single appraisal.

Highlights from previous events included an 1800s music box/photo album that appraised for up to $20,000 and a signed photograph by Gordon Parks that also appraised for $20,000.
