Frequently Asked Questions-
How will this cut affect your programming?
This funding cut will impact our ability to sustain iconic national programming like NOVA, Sesame Street, Masterpiece, Great Performances, and more.
Rather than investing in locally-produced shows, documentaries, and educational initiatives, MPB will be forced to rely on syndicated, external content to keep programming on the air throughout the day.
This is a significant loss for the state.
Will you continue serving the public?
Yes. While these cuts will force us to sacrifice the high-quality programming you’ve come to expect, MPB is committed to continuing to serve you. We are not going anywhere, but we do need your support more than ever to keep providing the vital services that make MPB unique.
MPB’s signal carries amber alerts, silver alerts, weather warnings, and evacuation notices—even when cell towers and internet fail. We are the state’s designated emergency alert network, including sending critical notifications to your mobile devices. But federal funding cuts threaten our ability to maintain this critical service.
Your donation helps ensure we can continue to provide trusted, lifesaving information to the public while keeping quality local programming alive.
What’s your plan?
We are actively building our plan as more details become available. There are still so many unknowns. What we do know is these federal cuts will affect Mississippi greater than it will affect other states with more resources.
How does this effect MPB?
We will work harder and work smarter with what we have and make it go as far as we can. We will find new ways of collecting content.
Are you removing NPR from your lineup?
Currently, we’re unsure about what programming we’ll be able to maintain. We do know that we will be very strategic about which NPR shows we will need to air. Almost half of our state listens to NPR on an annual basis, and those are also our donors. So if MPB needs to be more entrepreneurial – we need to balance our programming to fit all audiences.
