While viewing, educators should take notes on themes, ideas, and classroom connections relevant to their grade level standards and be prepared to discuss these at the workshop.
Professional Development Workshop Agenda
Date: Thursday, October 9 | Location: Mississippi Public Broadcasting Headquarters in Jackson, MS | Time: 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM
8:30 – 9:00 AM | Welcome & Purpose
Kick off the day with introductions and a discussion of the workshop goals.
9:00 – 10:00 AM | Grade-Band Breakouts
Teachers will meet in grade-level groups (K–5, 6–8, 9–12) to explore documentary themes, share ideas, and discuss how these connect to the Mississippi College- and Career-Readiness Standards specific to their grade level and subject area.
10:00 – 10:15 AM | Break
10:15 – 11:00 AM | Introduction to the Inquiry Design Model
A lecture-style session introducing the Inquiry Design Model and an example of a curriculum blueprint.
11:00 – 11:30 AM | Using Primary Sources in the Classroom
Learn practical strategies for teaching with primary sources to enhance critical thinking and historical analysis.
11:30 AM – 1:00 PM | Lunch (On Your Own)
Educators will be provided with local lunch options to include the MS State Fair!
1:00 – 1:30 PM | Engagement Strategies
As Educators return from lunch, MPB will share other Everlasting resources available – Podcast, Symposium Videos – and discuss cross-curricular opportunities and engagement strategies
1:30 – 4:00 PM | Blueprint Development Workshop
Educators return to grade-band groups to begin drafting curriculum blueprints aligned to the documentary themes and standards.
Optional Curriculum Development Extension
Educators may earn up to 3 CEUs by submitting an in-depth, scripted 2-week lesson plan based on the workshop blueprint.
Deadline for Submission: March 1, 2026
Deliverables: 2-week scripted unit plan aligned to state standards and documentary themes
