Summer Learning Family Fun Day 2019 was a complete success! Saturday’s event at the Jackson Convention Complex brought out about 4,000 people.

Kids and families enjoyed all of the hands-on activities Mississippi Public Broadcasting along with several vendors had at multiple activity stations. Children were able to create a painting, hear from a storyteller, receive a free book, have their face painted, play educational games, see animals from the Jackson Zoo and much more.

This year’s theme was Let’s Cheer For Reading. Cheerleading squads from Jackson State University, Wingfield High School and Jim Hill High School really had the crowd on their feet as the squads shouted out their special cheers with a reading focus.

Kids were thrilled to see and take pics with MPB and PBS characters during the event as well, including MPB’s Ed Said, Clifford the Big Red Dog and Curious George. Several parents signed their children up to join MPB Kids Club so they can stay abreast of future fun and educational events MPB will offer.

A special thanks goes to all the vendors who participated as well as event sponsors – University of Mississippi Medical Center and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi.
