Today, MSDH is reporting an additional 2,186 cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi and 38 deaths. Fifteen deaths occurred between January 24 and January 28, and 23 occurred between December 5 and January 22, identified from death certificate reports. Mississippi's total of COVID-19 cases now stands at 272,662, with 5,983 deaths. (Note: a death previously reported in De Soto county has been corrected to Marshall County.)
Among cases and deaths already reported, MSDH has identified 20 new cases in residents of long-term care facilities, and 3 deaths. There are currently 181 ongoing outbreaks of COVID-19 in long-term care facilities.
