MPB examines state’s voting system with special programs in April

JACKSON, Miss. – Tune in to Your Vote, Your Voice on Mississippi Public Broadcasting’s radio and television platforms in April as MPB examines Mississippi’s voting laws, barriers and history.

MPB News is also producing a special Your Vote, Your Voice @ISSUE program airing April 23 at 7:30 p.m. on MPB Television. 

The programs will address the importance of registering to vote, losing the right to vote and barriers voters face. Political experts, community activists and scholars will share insight about voting absentee and address broader issues related to voting and democracy in the state.

To support this content, MPB Television is producing an eight-part video series called The Voter’s HandbookThe series of 60-second messages will air between programs on television and shared to MPB’s social media platforms as well as YouTube. Each episode covers an aspect of the electoral process and how it relates to Mississippi. The topics include registration, voter turnout, losing voting rights, Mississippi’s annual elections, absentee voting, barriers to voting, redistricting (and the Census) and access to polling places. The series is hosted by Marvin P. King, Ph.D., associate professor of Political Science and African American Studies at the University of Mississippi.

The programs are a partnership with the Mississippi Humanities Council and the Federation of State Humanities Councils, funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
