It’s time to traverse the Magnolia State again as Mississippi Roads with host Walt Grayson kicks off a new season from Oct. 3, through Nov. 17, on Mississippi Public Broadcasting Television. Episodes will air Thursdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

This season Mississippi Roads makes stops in Bentonia, Clarksdale, Jackson, Ripley, Iuka, Winona, Poplarville, Tupelo, Amory, Hattiesburg, Oxford, Starkville, Brandon, McComb, Columbia, Batesville, Meridian, Horn Lake, Gulfport, Corinth and Brookhaven.

In Clarksdale, we see how international art is making its mark on the Delta town.

“The locale already draws tourists from around the world because of its great music and history of the blues.  Eric Stone saw a way to add another layer to the richness of Clarksdale by bringing in professional street artists from South America to ‘Paint the Town.’ The city got behind the idea and now it’s become an annual event,” said Shirley Mixon, segment producer. “The artwork is enormous, some covering the entire wall of a building.  And it’s so colorful and vibrant.  It really does capture your attention and makes you want to explore what else the town has to offer.”

And you can’t stop in Clarksdale without featuring the blues. So we get to know one of the youngest and most talented blues musicians in the country – Christone “Kingfish” Ingram. The 20-year-old guitarist, vocalist and songwriter has been called a blues prodigy and “the blues savior.”

In Winona, Poplarville, Tupelo and Amory, we discover just how much fun kids can have with all sorts of activities such as rope climbing, zip-lining, attending a summer music camp and learning to build rockets.

“Old Mountain Outdoor Adventures is an awesome place to explore and have fun in Winona,” said Corey Hart, segment producer. “The zip-lines and obstacle courses are great for kids and adults, but it’s the owners, Russell and Candace Durham, who really make this a special destination. Their excitement is contagious, and they make great hosts for the many families and church groups who visit.”

Katie Savage is the executive producer of Mississippi Roads. To see a video promo of the new season visit here.
