The mood in the state House of Representatives was tense yesterday. The matter at hand: a bill to ban the teaching of so-called Critical Race Theory. House Democrats, most of whom are Black, opposed the legislation. They say it threatens to whitewash the history of racism in the state. Republicans in the House, who are predominantly white, supported the bill.
