Today MSDH is reporting an additional 1,547 cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi and 34 deaths (6 of which occurred between June 21 and July 8, identified from death certificates). Mississippi's total of COVID-19 cases for the year now stands at 47,071, with 1,423 deaths.
Today's cases included 65 among residents in long-term care facilities, and 4 resident deaths. Active outbreaks of COVID-19 in long-term care facilities are up significantly, to 161 (where an outbreak is one or more cases among residents or staff).
942 Mississippians are currently hospitalized with confirmed COVID-19 infection, and 223 more with suspected COVID-19.
