Southern Remedy series titled ‘Hooked: Mississippi’s Opioid Hangover’ premieres Feb. 22 on MPB Television

JACKSON, Miss. – A new Southern Remedy three-part series titled “Hooked: Mississippi’s Opioid Hangover” will premiere at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 22 on MPB Television. Encore presentations are set for 5 p.m. Feb. 24 and 10 p.m. Feb. 28.

The opioid crisis gripping the nation is also impacting lives in Mississippi. The Magnolia State ranks fifth in the nation for opioid prescriptions, according to an investigation by The Associated Press and the Center for Public Integrity. Many Mississippians have become addicted to pain medication and find themselves with nowhere to turn.

In the first episode of the three-part series, Southern Remedy Executive Producer Kathryn Rodenmeyer collects interviews with several individuals recovering from opioid addiction or opioid substance abuse.

Experts who also weigh in on the topic include Dr. Rick deShazo of the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Clint Crawford of Lifecore Health Group, John Dowdy, director of the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, and Attorney General Jim Hood.
