Former president Bill Clinton was in the Capitol City just five days before the presidential primary in Mississippi. He was speaking up for his wife Hillary - the Democratic front-runner. MPB's Maura Moed reports.
Bill Clinton made an appearance yesterday at Cups - a coffee shop in Jackson. There, he greeted a crowd of Hillary Clinton supporters. He says he thinks the former secretary of state has what it takes to win votes in a diverse state like Mississippi.
"I think now that we're getting into these primaries, you saw it in Nevada, where we had a diverse group of Americans give her a victory that a lot of people didn't think she'd win. Then, she got that crushing victory in South Carolina, where she got a majority of white voters, as well as a big majority of African-American voters," Clinton says.
Hillary Clinton faces Senator Bernie Sanders in the Democratic Primary.
Tammy Cotton was at cups too. She says Clinton's visit shows people, especially Mississippians that they matter.
"I think it galvanized so much energy for Mississippi and the passion that they have for the country is just going to be awesome. This is going to push them to make Mississippi the state that we want it to be," says Cotton.
President Clinton joins a growing list of high profile campaigners. Donald Trump and Ted Cruz are coming to Mississippi next week, and John Kasich has been here three times. The 2016 Mississippi primaries will be held on next Tuesday.
