One of the largest religious denominations in Mississippi is the subject of a new report detailing decades-long mishandling of sexual abuse claims. According to an investigation by a third-party firm, the Southern Baptist Convention systematically mistreated and cast aside abuse survivors.
The report finds the denomination's Executive Committee treated survivors as liars and, quote, "professional victims." Church leaders also used the SBC's in-house news service, the Baptist Press, to smear people who brought allegations of assault.
