MPB and Community Partners Host Family Fun Day in Columbus on April 20

Free public event will feature a health fair, STEAM activities, live music and more

JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippi Public Broadcasting will host a Family Fun Day on Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mississippi University for Women in Columbus.

The free event is open to the public and is a collaboration of MPB, Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science and MUW. It is in partnership with the Preservation Society of Columbus as part of the Columbus Spring Pilgrimage.

All ages are invited to MUW’s Pohl Gymnasium for interactive, educational, and inspirational fun. The MUW Education Department, Columbus-Lowndes County “Excel by 5,” Center for Education Support and other state agencies will combine their assets with MPB’s multiple digital resources to provide various activities promoting literacy, mathematical and computational thinking and problem-solving.

Featured activities include:

• A health fair by Excel by 5

• Hands-on STEAM activities and logic games from MSMS

• A percussion petting zoo hosted by MSMS students

• Appearance from MPB’s edutainment character, Ed Said

• The workforce development ambassadors of the MPB Student Council

• Safety gear presentation with the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services

• Work and career-focused resources from Accelerate Mississippi
