JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) has been nominated for two Southeast EMMY® awards for its flagship program, “Mississippi Roads,” and “Mind in the Making: The Essential Life Skills.”

“We are privileged to tell Mississippi stories and to be recognized for our unique brand of storytelling by the Southeast EMMY® awards,” said Taiwo Gaynor, MPB chief content officer.

“Mississippi Roads,” hosted by Walt Grayson, showcases the state’s unique landmarks, attractions, art, history, culture, and people across Mississippi. An episode highlighting the state’s blues music heritage was nominated in the category of Magazine Program. The producers were Katie Savage, Ron Rodenmeyer, Jon Carter, and Scott Bradfield.

“Mind in the Making” is nominated in the category of Informational/Instructional – Long Form Content. MPB and the University of Mississippi Center for Excellence in Literacy Instruction co-produced “Mind in the Making,” a production based on the book of the same name by Ellen Galinsky, a national expert on supporting young children and their families. Executive producers included John Gibson and Kathryn Rodenmeyer, and the directors were Ron Rodenmeyer and Don Warren. The project was grant-funded by UM CELI.

“These productions represent some of the best talent Mississippi has to offer and MPB is proud to showcase this work on our air,” said Royal Aills, MPB chief executive officer. “Our mission is to serve the people of Mississippi and programs like this reflect that mission by providing entertaining and informative content to our viewers every day.”

The Regional Southeast EMMY® celebrates television excellence at the local and regional level of The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The Southeast region covers Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina and Asheville, North Carolina.

The awards will be presented Saturday, June 15 in Atlanta.
