Bring Your Treasures and Be a Part of
'Mississippi Antique Showcase' in Natchez
Over the past three seasons of the MPB Original, "Mississippi Antique Showcase," the MPB appraisers have heard the stories behind hundreds of beautiful pieces that have found their way to Mississippi. From tapestries and unique pieces of art and jewelry to sports memorabilia, period clothing, and even a couple of grandfather clocks, all the items connect Mississippi to the rest of the world with a rich history.
Now, antique fans are invited to bring their antique treasures (family heirlooms, flea market finds, art, jewelry, and furniture) to the Natchez Convention Center on May 3 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and May 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Entry for filming, food and beverages, a yearlong membership to MPB, and one item appraisal are included with a $100 donation. The event becomes a getaway with two event tickets, plus a one-night stay - with extras - in a local bed and breakfast or casino hotel, for a donation of $399.
After experiencing the filming of the popular MPB Original, ticket holders can check out even more activities happening in the historic city over the weekend. Visit Natchez has gathered a list of additional events, such as "The Towers Mansion: The Haunting of the Towers," the "Dunleith Reception and Tour," and tours of the historic Choctaw Hall. Find the full list of activities here.
Don't miss this opportunity to "travel through time," creating new memories with a historic experience in Natchez at the next "Mississippi Antique Showcase." Call 844-874-6874 or click the button to reserve your tickets.

Thanks to Columbus for Welcoming MPB to the Neighborhood
Over 1,300 learners of all sizes joined 50 vendors at the Mississippi University for Women Pohl Gym on April 20 for the first "Family Fun Day" in 2024. New CEU Courses for Educators Start May 15

Mississippi Lawmakers Move Toward Restoring Voting Rights to 32 Felons as Broader Suffrage Bill Dies
Mississippi legislators advanced bills Monday to give voting rights back to 32 people convicted of felonies, weeks after a Senate leader killed a broader bill that would have restored suffrage to many more people with criminal records. The move is necessary due to Mississippi's piecemeal approach to restoring voting rights to people convicted of felony offenses who have paid their debts to society.

Mississippi Views
Fun Fact: There are only two species of alligator in the world, the American (Alligator mississippiensis, named for the Mississippi river) and the Chinese (Alligator sinensis). The easiest way to distinguish between alligators and crocodiles actually is their smile: gators have wider snouts and less tooth in their grin than the croc, who also prefers salt or brackish wetlands. Thanks to Stephanie Latham of Lena for her photo of this smiling young gator. Email your favorite local views to photos@mpbonline.org.

Delightful 'Wacky Cake'
Ashley Moore of Cook's Country demonstrates a deceptively simple "wacky cake," a moist chocolate cake prepared without eggs or butter. The alternative dessert was developed during the Depression era when certain ingredients - like eggs and butter - were either too expensive or simply unavailable. Today, it almost seems like magic.
