COVID-19: Stimulus checks and relief funds

You’ve probably heard that stimulus payments are now being distributed and you may even be one of the lucky few to have received funds in this first wave. However, if you’re in the majority who haven’t and are wondering if or when you’ll receive relief funds, there’s a bit of good news! The IRS has created an online tool called “Get My Payment” that went live this morning on the IRS website. The IRS is sending funds first to those who already have banking information on file. If you’ve already filed your 2019 taxes, then by using this link and entering your social security number, date of birth and mailing address, you’ll be able to track the status of your stimulus payment. Expect a slow website as millions of Americans are trying to track their funds, too. Check it out here.

Non-filers will have to take some action to get their banking information on file with the IRS in order to receive their funds. The IRS has created a separate online tool for this purpose that promises to be short and sweet and to only collect basic, non- income related information. It may be found here.
