MPB’s Early Childhood staff, in partnership with Springboard to Opportunities, recently hosted a Family and Community Learning (FCL): ScratchJr workshop at Northwood Village Apartments.

The workshop is part of MPB’s Ready To Learn initiative that promotes early science and literacy learning in children ages 2-8.  The workshop consists of activities that work to engage the entire family in the creative learning process.

During the sessions, staff engaged parents and children in instruction and hands-on learning activities with a focus on basic coding using their favorite PBS KIDS characters.  Families showed great excitement and enthusiasm as they engaged in each session.

Parents were also given useful tips, resources and materials that will encourage them to continue to engage in the early learning of their children.  This project is funded by a Ready To Learn grant provided by the Department of Education to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
