Several billboards around the Jackson metro area are now displaying messages reminding Mississippians that abortion pills remain accessible across the state. Unlike Plan-B pills which are only effective up to one week after intercourse, these pills can be effective throughout the first trimester. Olivia Raisner is Co-Founder and Creative Director of Mayday Health who sponsors the billboards. She says it’s important that Mississippians know that these pills are still available.

“Plan-c abortion pills are 99% safe, 97% effective within the first trimester, and they lead to fewer hospitalizations than Tylenol. It’s no wonder they’ve been FDA approved for decades.”

Because these medications are FDA-approved, legal experts say this could create challenges for states attempting to ban them completely. Although Mayday Health does not directly offer legal and medical advice, Raisner says their website has several resources that visitors can use to better understand these medications and how to get them.

“So these abortion pills are something that you can access through the mail. And we walk through those steps at our website. We also link to the reproductive legal health line which offers free, private, legal advice from experts in the reproductive health space to walk through some of those concerns. But at mayday we’re providing information on these pills and how to access them.”

Telehealth providers are often restricted to shipping medications within their state, but experts say creating a mail-forwarding address can circumvent those barriers.
